Unlike its gypsum (calcium sulphate) counterpart which is softer, Oriental alabaster (calcite carbonate) is similar in hardness to marble. So, vessels made with oriental alabaster can be filled with annointing oil, water, balm, ointment, sacrament wine, or other biblically significant items without harming the alabaster or its precious contents. So, you can store your annointing oils, perfume and other special treasures just like in ancient biblical times!
